Winner of the prestigious Kelliher first prize in 1977, Brian Baxter has painted professionally for over 40 years, in oils, watercolours & acrylics.

In that time he has exhibited in all N.Z. main centres as well as Adelaide & Washington D.C. and his work is in private collections throughout the world.

Over the years landscapes have reflected extensive travel experiences to many countries including U.K ,  Europe, America etc. but the natural beauty of New Zealand remains favourite.

After many years of “plein air” or outdoor painting Brian now works mainly from his home studio in Blenheim where he likes to experiment with portraits, florals, seascapes etc as  well as traditional ever appealing landscapes, in both oils and watercolours.

In2022, a fitting culmination of almost half a century of professional painting was Brian’s appointment as guest artist at the NZ Watercolour Society's main annual exhibition, "Splash", in the Academy of Fine Arts Gallery in Wellington, where he also acted as judge for the various awards.
