“I started out painting, solely in oils, about 1973. My mentor and motivator was the late Aston Greathead of Kaikoura, where I was born in 1940.
A later influence has been John Crump, another fine NZ oil painter.
Technique and style have changed over the years, one period being devoted largely to acrylics, painted in a virtual oil painting style. A couple of examples of this are on this page, but pretty well indistinguishable.
These days acrylics, although an exciting medium, I use not so much. except to perhaps incorporate them in with some watercolours, a whole different ball game.”
